Your Gateway to Sail 4th 250 & the International Naval Review

With the celebration of the 250^th Anniversary of the founding of these United States rapidly approaching, the Gateway Marina family of boaters will have a front row seat to see a once in a lifetime spectacle.

Sail 4^th 250 will include tall ships from 44 countries gathered in our local waters in preparation for a thrilling parade through New York harbor past the Statue of Liberty on the Fourth of July. Many of these majestic vessels will be arriving days in advance and some will anchor in a designated staging area right inside Sandy Hook Bay within site of the marina.

In addition, the International Naval Review 250 which coincides with the tall ships review, will include a gathering of modern war ships from of the U.S. Navy and other nations. They will also pass in review through New York Harbor on July 4^th prior to Fleet Week, which begins immediately after July 4^th.

The opportunity to view the tall ships from your own boat is a possibility, but there will be closed mooring areas with recreational vessel restrictions that must be followed. These restrictions will also govern movements in and out of the Shrewsbury River whether you’re going fishing or tall ship viewing. You can reserve a free anchorage in New York Harbor or the surrounding waters for the festivities but space is limited and you have to be prepared to stay overnight since there will be no ingress or egress after certain hours on July 3. You will be able to cruise the waters around the anchorages in the days leading up to July 4 and see tall ships from a relatively close perspective.

In addition, we strongly suggest downloading the Aquamap app from the Google or Apple app stores. It is the official app partner of Sail 4^th 250 and will clearly show all the restricted and transit areas on their advanced charting software throughout the lead-up and after the big event. The app has a tab specifically for Sail 4^th 250 that, among other functions, is actively tracking the location of all the approaching tall ships in real time, and it will show where each ship will be anchored in the run up to July 4^th.

We strongly suggest you review all the materials carefully and follow all the temporary rules of navigation for the area. U.S. Navy, Coast Guard and State Police patrol boats will be watching these areas closely starting several days before, during, and after the event.
